Macy's Ramps Up Fashion Quotient for Spring

Macy's is raising the fashion stakes for spring.
The department store chain has launched several initiatives to offer its customers high fashion at surprisingly reasonable process.
The retailer has partnered with Italian-born, London-trained designer Kinder Aggugini for a limited-edition collection that will be housed in the store's Impulse fashion department.
The approximately 40-piece collection includes a ton of great dresses, a really cool trompe l'oeil romper and a leather jacket that looks considerably more expensive than its $300-ish price tag. Prices for the separates start at $40.
"I see these girls in England and they take their mum's couture gowns and chop them as short as possible and take their boyfriends' leather jackets," Aggugini told StyleList at the brand's launch at New York's Gramercy Park Hotel. "I like that look, with their mum's Manolos, or if they go to Glastonbury, they wear their wellies. It's chic and messed up at the same time -- there's no other way to explain it."
Aggugini, who has worked for John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, Calvin Klein and Versace, is quite sure of the fashion-rightness of his collection for Macy's. "They want it and they will even sacrifice their boyfriend for it," he winked.
"Project Runway" Season 6 winner Irina Shabayeva is collaborating with INC International Concepts to create a capsule collection of movement- and dance-inspired sportswear.
Formfitting dresses, tops, skirts, jackets and even denim have been rethought with clean lines, modern fabrics and bright colors from vivid pinks to deeper jewel tones. Details like exposed zippers, lace and jeweled beading make these pieces a steal at prices starting at $49 to $169. The dance theme even filters down to footwear: Shabayeva offers Ponte slipper platforms and ribbon-tied espadrilles, each for under $100.
